in the mining sector look like in the future?
PANELISTS:
Christopher C.J. Angeconeb, President & CEO, Aurcrest Gold Inc.
Christopher Clayton James Angeconeb, a member of the Lac Seul First Nation in the Grand Council Treaty #3 area of Northwestern Ontario, possesses a strong understanding of the interrelated issues facing many First Nations, of the requirements of many of the agencies involved with Aboriginal affairs, and of the practical implementation of the Crown’s duty to consult and accommodate. Chris will now be setting the direction of the Company, focusing on exploration and expansion of Company holdings as an active participant to the socioeconomic development of our neighbouring Aboriginal communities. Chris will also continue to serve as President of Wiigwaasaatig Energy Inc., the renewable energy subsidiary of the Company tasked with partnering with local First Nations to develop the infrastructure necessary to sustain mineral industry activities.
David de Launay is the Deputy Minister with the Ministry of Northern Development of Mines. As Deputy Minister, he is focused on: developing innovation in the mining sector as well as supporting the exploration sector; addressing infrastructure needs in northern Ontario; helping to implement the government’s approach to Indigenous people; and addressing economic growth throughout the North.
Mr. de Launay is responsible for the oversight of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission and the Owen Sound Transportation Company. Previously he was the Deputy Minister of Aboriginal Affairs (2013 – 2014) and an Assistant Deputy Minister with the Ministries of Natural Resources, Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Mines, and Cabinet Office (2004 – 2013). Mr. de Launay has been a Board Director of educational, economic and Great Lakes organizations, including Algoma University (2012 – 2013). He holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Trent University.
Mike Metatawabin, Board Chair of Wawatay Native Communications Society; Board Chair of NAPS (Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service); former Chief of Fort Albany First Nation; former Grand Chief of NAN (Nishnawbe-Aski Nation); former Director and President of Five Nations Energy Inc.
A member and former Chief of the Fort Albany First Nation in Northeastern Ontario, Mr. Metatawabin brings with him a strong background in public relations, having been involved in radio and TV journalism for over 13 years. Employed with Debeers Canada as a communications consultant, Mr. Metatawabin also currently serves as the Chairman of the Board and President of the Wawatay Native Communications Society. Fluently bilingual in the Cree language, Mr. Metatawabin has served as a board member for the Mushkegowuk Tribal Council, the Nishnabe-Aski Nation, the Chiefs of Ontario and the Assembly of First Nations. Other appointed positions included president of Five Nations Energy, chairman of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Services, and chairman of the Weeneebayko Health Authuskaywin. He has served on the board of directors of 3981584 Canada Inc., a community-owned corporation which builds the winter road along the Western James Bay coast each year. Mr. Metatawabin has been involved in addressing regional issues since 1985 through his work with Wawatay and other organizations and has been a member of the APTN Board of Directors since August 2007.
